A show stopper to say the least, this Edwardian diamond ring is a rare beauty.
The navette shaped piece is in amazing condition, with all 35 of its original Old European cut diamonds intact. Hand made in open, lacy platinum work which the Edwardian era is so famously known for, 3.44 carats of bright diamonds are set from top to bottom. At center is a beautiful 0.75 carat bezel set diamond. Surrounding it are 34 chunky old European cut diamonds ranging in size from 0.32 carats all the way down to accent diamonds at 0.015 carats. The pierced, open platinum work, complete with millegrain throughout, allows light to travel through making the diamonds sparkle.
With the discovery of platinum around 1900, jewelers of the Edwardian era were able to create pieces like never before. Platinum allowed them to work in a lighter, more delicate fashion, using less metal than previously thought possible. Delicate and demure while being large scale, this ring is a great example of how important the discovery of platinum was to the world of jewelry.
Substantial in size measuring 1.86 inches from top to bottom, it is the definition of a statement piece.
