A romantic ring for the ages... An Edwardian "Toi et Moi" platinum topped 18 karat yellow gold diamond and sapphire ring, circa 1900.
The Old European Cut diamond, weighing approximately 0.75 carats is set within 8 small prongs. It's mate is a cushion cut sapphire weighing approximately .70 carats, also prong set. It's accented by 14 rose cut diamonds, 1.5 - 1.75 mm each set within millegrain filled platinum topped 18 karat yellow gold.
A French saying, “Toi et Moi” means You and Me and in jewelry refers to a ring that showcases two stones symbolizing two people. These were common engagement rings during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, symbolizing two souls that are intertwined. The ring that is believed to have started the trend (and is similar to our example here) was a diamond and sapphire engagement ring given by Napoleon to Josephine in 1776.
The elongated shape of a ring like this makes it extra attractive to those looking for a larger scale piece. It would make a lovely engagement ring, but it's unique look and style make it perfect for any occasion.
Currently a 6.5 , this ring can be sized up to a size 8.5 and down to a size 4.5.
