the story

Diamond stud earrings are an essential and classic piece for every woman to own, but these, however, are a real treasure for the jewelry lover!

Dating back to circa 1890s, these are an incredible pair of Victorian old cut diamond stud earrings which total 1.90 carats in diamond weight.  Set in 18K yellow gold and still intact with the original threaded post and backing, their years of age produced the lovely patina seen throughout.  Each earring consists of a 0.95 carat diamond that is I-J-K in color and SI in clarity.  Surrounded by a six claw prong setting, the diamonds shine brightly in this airy setting that allows light to hit every part of the stone and reflect the intense sparkle back to your eye!

During the time these earrings were made, diamonds were transitioning from the Old Mine cuts to the new Old European Cut  With the invention of the bruting machine and the rotary diamond saw, technological advances allowed for the diamond girdle to now be made circular instead of angular and with more precise angles and proportions, producing more pleasing optics.

At Fox & Bond, we live for old cut diamonds!  Compared to today's standard of the ideal modern brilliant cut diamond, the old cut diamonds, with their technical variations in proportions, produce a magical quality that can't be captured today... they have that "je ne sais quoi" that keeps us always on the hunt for these rare pieces.
